This week’s lecture was conducted by Dr. Fariza and she lectured us on how to do our weekly reflections. Dr mentioned that the kind of reflection we did during our computer class in the previous semester was not good enough as it was just us typing out our day and it was more of a diary than reflections. We were told that for this course, we are expected to do a full reflection every week that includes a few aspects that she mentioned.
For the reflections, we can use any platform we can think of and be creative with it. We are given the freedom to write anything and design our page anyhow we want to as long as it is appropriate. The reflection that is expected from us must be reflecting the class, giving our own opinions, critical as well as some other aspects stated by Dr. In my opinion, it is great that we are given the opportunity to express ourselves in our blog and keep it interesting and unique however we want to although we have to follow the aspects given by our lecturer while doing our reflections.
After the explanation on our weekly reflections, we moved on with the explanation on Educational Technology. Educational technology means the teaching aid teachers use in class which could help them with their lesson for the day. Although the word “technology” is usually associated with computers and electronic devices, the word “educational” change the whole meaning entirely. Educational technology includes white board, black board, markers, flashcards and other aids used by teachers which now we call those as the traditional methods. I was not expecting this kind of explanation when I first saw the words “Educational Technology” because I thought in my head that technology would means as gadgets and gadgets alone. It did not occur to me once that it would mean teaching aids. As mentioned by Dr, it is the combination of theory and practice. According to EduWiki, Educational Technology can be defined as many things which can be considered as either a design science or as a collection of various research interests regarding fundamental issues of teaching learning and social organization.
After that we moved on to Instructional Design. Instructional design means making the learning process and skill more efficient effective and appealing. The five domains are design, develop, utilize, manage and evaluate. I dozed off in the middle of the lecture as I was beginning to feel hungry and tired but I was able to comprehend most of it. I will soon get in depth of the meaning and study about the instructional design later in my free time.
Thanks for reading!!
