Hi everyone! We are just one week away from our semester break!!! Yay!!
Dr Khalid lectured us this week on the Principle of Multimedia and audio/sound editing. He started the class by lecturing us on the types of multimedia. What I remember about the presentation was the 5 elements that people should put in their video which are audio, text, clips, photos and storyboard.
After the lecture, Dr showed us two videos from YouTube as examples of video taking and editing. The first video was of a stranger taking videos of his trip to some place (I forgot the place). I loved how he took the videos and then edited them together. I am pretty sure he took his video with a GoPro because of the wide lens angle. He took a video of each of his journey and combined it together with background music. Although the video was beautiful and smooth, it has it disadvantages such as there was no text or caption in it so I did not really understand the purpose of the video. The other video was by Dr Khalid himself which we figured out ourselves later at the end of the video because there was a picture of him in it. The skills and technique of video taking in this one is completely different from the previous one. This video also has the advantages and disadvantages.
As a group work Dr Khalid asked us to discuss with our group members about the advantages and disadvantages of the two videos he showed and present it in class. Although one of the videos is his, he took the comments about his video calmly and did not say anything about our comments.
After the discussion on the two videos, Dr introduced us to Audacity which is an audio editing software. This software is mainly for editing audios together. Our assignment for this one was to create a mash up of two songs and again, present it in class. I have never heard of this software before yet alone use it to edit anything. I am familiar with other editing software and Audacity seemed a bit more complex than the ones I have used.
The assignment took my group members and I about half an hour to edit one song and although we struggled the whole way, we managed to mashed up two songs together. At first, we chose the song “Mind” by Jack U and “Be Together” by Major Lazer to mash up together but after we did the edit, the two songs did not match and the mash up sounded weird and wrong. I had an idea of mashing up only Major Lazer’s songs and maybe it would sound right because usually composers has their own way of composing and their own style of beats so we did try the song “Be together” and “Revolution” by Major Lazer together and it sounded great!
What I learned from this activity is that we have to find songs that have the same beat and melody to mash up together or else it would not sound right. We cannot just simply choose any song and just edit it with another song because the songs would probably sound awful when mash up together.
Thanks for reading guys!! Happy Holidays!
