Good day everyone!
For this week’s class, Dr Khalid introduced us to Windows Movie Maker and as soon as I heard of it, I got really excited because I am familiar with the software and just new that I would enjoy this week’s class. Dr Khalid stressed on clips and audios to be layered together so that overall the video would have a really great plot and I agreed with him 100%! Dr Khalid then asked the entire class to try and combined a few videos together into one smooth edited video. The purpose of this activity is for those who had never tried editing videos or even heard of the Movie Maker.
The activity required us to choose any objective we desired and target audience. Since I am obsessed with cats, I have decided to edit a video to highlight cats’ strange behaviour. Cats, known by their cuteness and laziness, are scared of a lot of strange things for example; they are scared of cucumbers. There are a lot of YouTube videos that shows different random things cats are afraid of and I took the opportunity to show it to everyone in class.
For starters, I searched on YouTube of videos of cats reacting to strange, random things and there were a lot of videos that popped up. After finding a few videos that I really like and kind of funny, I downloaded the videos and meanwhile, I had Windows Movie Maker downloading in the background since the computer in the computer laboratory did not have it. After downloading the videos, I attached all of the videos in Movie maker and began editing.
All 4 videos I chose were edits of a lot of videos together and I had to use the “trimmer” and “splitter” tools. Since the videos are edits of videos put together, I split all the videos into parts and cut the scenes that I did not really like. I also added a title for my project and named it “Things Cats’ Hate/Scared of”. I chose a few of my favourites for all of the videos and added captions for each. Since I am familiar with this editing software, it was pretty easy for me and it did not take me long to finish my project. For each video, I chose a transition to show another video after the other and to separate the videos. After I finish editing all those, I chose one music from YouTube and added it into my project. The music I chose was an instrumental music background and it is used by a lot of YouTubers. Although I am familiar with this software, I am not very good in editing but, I think I did a good job overall!! Yay me!!
I believe that this activity could add to students’ knowledge and familiarize students who had never heard of the software. Editing skills are essential especially when you are a student because you most probably have to use these skills for presentations and it is never too late to learn something new.
I really enjoyed this week’s class and I am so glad I came to class this week because I get to do something really fun!!
